Please remember May 26 will be our last class. We plan on having a fun tournament with just our students. Afterwards we will have a pizza party for the students and pass out grading certificates. It has been a great year for the KV Judo Club ! Thank you to everyone for your assistance and hard work.

Eastern Canadian Judo Championships

Weigh ins will be from 7-9 Friday night but only from 7-8 Saturday morning. Tournament starts at 10am. Confirm this when you register. You have already paid. Jeff will see you there Saturday morning. If you need to reach me call 650-0683. He will be staying at the Best Western in Grand Falls. Start thinking about what you want to do when you step on the mat ( Your Strategy).

Eastern Canadians, Kids tournament in April and Easter Sunday

We have 7 people competing at the Eastern Canadian Judo Championships in Edmundston on April 06,2013. They are Ethan Saunders, Alex Forgeron, David Forgeron, Alex Gower, Anna Gormley, Ryan Cameron and Jared Cameron. If I missed anyone please get in touch with me today as the information is due today if you wanted the discounted registration fee of $40. If you register after today the registration fee doubles.

The Kids FUN Tournament in Saint John on April 20th will start at 10am. Registration will take place between 9-9:30am. If you are interested in participating and I would like to see everybody attend I need you to send me an e-mail with your name, weight, DOB and color of belt.

Remember no class this Sunday as it is Easter Sunday.

Atlantic camp, Feburary tournament and ordering belts

Don't forget on Jan 26 and 27 Judo NB is putting on an ATLANTIC CAMP in Fredericton. Jeff will be away but encourages anybody that can attend to do so. The fee is $50 for both days. Please see JUDO NB website for more information. You need to be at least 10 and a yellow belt to be eligible for the Camp.

 

If you plan to compete in the tournaments on Feb 02 and 03 please remember that Jeff needs all your information - DOB, weight and belt colour along with your registration fee prior to Jan 29. The sooner the better!!!

 

If you want Jeff to order you a belt please bring in your $10 this week. E-mail Jeff the size and colour you want. He will be sending the order out on Thursday of this week.

Volunteers for the tournament we are hosting in February

The Organizing Committee has been doing an excellent job preparing for the Provincials and Greg Halpin Memorial Tournaments that our Club is hosting on Feb. 02 and 03.

 

On Wednesday we will be passing out sponsorship forms for the judokas to take home. We would like everybody to try and obtain some sponsors if at all possible. We are putting a program together to pass out at the Tournaments and the business can advertise in the program. For 1/4 of a page the amount would be $25, 1/2 a page, $50 and for a full page $100.

 

The following are some items we need or jobs we need people to volunteer for:

 

We need a:

  • PA system
  • Canadian Flag
  • somebody to sing or play O Canada.
  •  

We need volunteers for the following jobs:

  • A bilingual announcer for the Opening Ceremonies
  • First Aid team ( 2 people for Saturday and 2 for Sunday)
  • Set Up Crew - moving mats and tables, etc.
  • A male and female for weigh ins on Friday night 7-9 and Sat morning 7-9
  • 2 people for Registration Fri night 7-9, Sat morning 7-9 and Sunday morning 9-10
  • Canteen personnel - to run canteen and get supplies ( Looking for people to supply some items or approach some buslnesses) We will be selling Pizza from Angelos.
  • Score Keepers Sat and Sun
  • Time Keepers Sat and Sun
  • People to see 50/50 tickets Sat and Sun
  • Clean up crew - to bring mats back and tidy up gym afterwards

Fall classic - November 2-4, 2012

There is an upcoming tournament in Fredericton, November 2 - 4. U13+ will be November 2 and 3. U7 - U13 will be November 4. Those wishing to attend should speak to Jeff.

New season - September 12, 2012

Welcome to all our new and returning students. Those interested in attending the Quebec Open should speak to Jeff as soon as possible. Any students interested in purchasing a gi should also speak to Jeff, as we will be placing an order shortly.

Sympathies - August 25, 2012

On behalf of the KV Judo Club I would like to express our deepest sympathy to Rob and Richard McLean, instructors with our club, whose father Rob McLean recently passed away. It goes without saying that we are all thinking and praying for their family at this time. Visitation is on Sunday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Brenan's Funeral Home. The funeral is on Monday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 12:05pm.

A donation will be made from our Judo Family to a donor that the McLean family has chosen.

Rob and Richard we are all thinking of you at this very difficult time.

Final class of the year - June 11, 2012

Judo starts at 2:30pm!!! We will have a fun tournament amongst our club members. All participants will receive a medal. Afterwards we will go out to the cafeteria and have some pizza and pop ( Sorry only for the students) and pass out the diplomas. It has been a great 16th year for the KV Judo Club and I thank all of you for your contributions.

Kiyokan Kids Invitational Judo Tournament

When: Saturday, May 12

Where: Harbourview High School, 305 Douglas Ave., SJ

Fee: $25 (to be paid when you weigh in)

Weigh Ins: Friday night - 7pm-9pm, Saturday 8:15am-9:15am, You MUST weigh in and register at these times to be allowed to participate. Boys weigh in with pants only and Girls with pants and shirt

Categories: U7 (2006), U9 (2005,2004), U11 (2003,2002) and U13 ( 2001,2000)

All participants need to be on the Mat at 10:45am.

Warm Up begins at 11am

Tournament begins after the Warm Up ( exact time I do not know) The younger groups normally start and finish first.

All participants will receive a medal.

There will be a canteen on site.

Goal: To promote FUN and Safety!

Upcoming tournament

On May 12,2012 there will be a tournament for all judokas born in 2006-2000. It will be held at Harborview High School, Saint John. Please keep this date open so you participate in this FUN tournament. All participants will receive a medal. I will send reminders and more information as the tournament gets closer.

2012 Ontario Open

Eastern Canadians

To the strongest fighter we know - Greg Halpin September 12th, 1991 - March 15th, 2012

At this difficult time, the KV judo club wants to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Greg Halpin, who passed away peacefully Thursday night after a long illness. Greg was a valued member of our club and his loss will be felt by all. Information on funeral arrangements can be found here.

Atlantics

The Atlantic Judo Tournament will be held at the Delta Beausejour in Moncton on March 11,2012. It is a preregistration tournament only, which means all competitors MUST be registered by March 01,2012. The cost of registration is $40. If you want to fight in a second category the cost is $30. You can compete if you are born in 2001 and older. For U13/U15/U20 the competition is from 9am-1pm. Opening ceremonies are from 1-1:20pm. U17 and Senior are from 1:30pm-5pm.

Max Steel and Provincials Results

The weekend of February 4th, four Judoka represented our club at the Max Steel tournament and the Provincials in Clair, NB : Jared and Ryan Cameron, Alex Gower and Sam Porter. Ryan, Alex and Sam came home as Provincial Champions and Jared brought home the silver. (Jared beat the provincial champion in his group the day before at the Max Steel tournament for a gold medal.) Between our four competitors, they brought home 13 medals. Congratulations to all our competitors on a fantastic performance.
